NicePlace is an independent website launched in February 2025 by Adrian Marton (a.k.a. me). It serves as my free, personal digital space. A safe and secure place to store, organize, and share my ideas, thoughts and projects using open source solutions.

Please note: This site is still under development, so its design and content may change significantly over the coming months. Currently, the Registration, Sign-In, and Comment sections are disabled. My personal space will not feature any ads, require any payments, or collect any data. If you would like a username, simply email me at [email protected].

Purpose

The goal of NicePlace is to create a simple, open digital environment where I can experiment with new ideas and technologies without the constraints of commercial platforms. I believe in the power of open source and personal creativity, and this site is a reflection of that philosophy.

Motivation

Back in 2024, I decided to go full digital detox—bye-bye Netflix, GitHub, GitLab, Disney+, Prime, Google Storage, Microsoft 365, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube… basically, I ghosted the entire online party. After more than 15 years in the IT industry, I finally hit burnout. Not the kind that comes with a spa day, but the kind that makes you wonder if you've been running on an endless treadmill with no off switch.

The constant pressure and contradictions I faced were like being stuck in a loop of motivational quotes that say, “Work harder, double your efforts,” while companies’ profits shot for the stars. They once promised to simplify our lives with cool, innovative tools. Instead, they've generously offered us a delightful dose of existential confusion: now even developers, the people who create the profitable tools these companies thrive on—may be replaced by AI, those shiny robots we built to make things easier. Meanwhile, nobody’s talking about the CEOs or other high-ranking folks, where "reason" seems to go on vacation. Makes you wonder: is there a master plan to get rid of the very people making these rich and powerful services, while the corporate bigwigs just sit back and cash in? Cheers to that brilliant strategy!

This absurd disconnect between grand promises and the reality of overworked, underappreciated humans sparked my big idea: why not create a space where I’m the boss, the code is my playground, and I can share my musings without the corporate soundtrack?

And so, NicePlace was born—a quirky, personal digital sanctuary for ideas, reflections, and a healthy dose of humor.
